9 Dog Breeds under ₹20,000 in India [2023 Updated]

Not everyone likes to buy rare or designer dog breeds, costing lakhs of rupees. If you are like me, who wants a friendly, playful, and loyal companion who can bring joy to your life without putting a hole in your pocket, then you are at the right place.

So for my research, I called nearly 50 dog breeders and sellers around India and asked them the prices of various dog breeds and made this list of 9 Dog Breeds under ₹20,000 in India.

1. Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retrievers are friendly, lovable, and energetic dogs. They are also commonly called labradors or ‘Labs’. They are quite popular in India.

History

The origin of Labrador is from the United Kingdom, where they were bred to retrieve birds as they have a very soft feel to the mouth.

Personality

Labrador Retrievers are bouncy, cheerful, loyal, and enthusiastic. They are friendly and loving with children and family. They are active dogs and always ready to play.

  • Need a lot of exercises.
  • They can be a little rowdy and mischievous in their puppyhood.
  • They are prone to separation anxiety.
  • They are foodies and love to eat which makes them prone to obesity.

2. German Shepherd

German Shepherds are medium to large size working dogs. They are highly intelligent and can be trained easily. German Shepherds are one of the most popular dog breeds in the USA.

History

As the name suggests, German Shepherds are originally from Germany. They were used by shepherds to herd sheep.

Personality

They are known for their confidence, courage, intelligence, and gentle nature. They tend to learn quickly and are very loyal to their humans. They are energetic and would love to play for hours.

Things to consider

  • They have a thick double coat because of which they can get heated easily and they shed a lot.
  • You need a high degree of control and training to have a German Shepherd.
  • One needs to be careful before getting a German Shepherd as they are a strong and intelligent breed that needs a lot of mental stimulation.
  • They are a large breed that needs an ample amount of space.

3. Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are fluff balls with a golden shiny soft coat. They are very lovable and friendly. Best suited as family dogs. They are known for their gentle and playful nature.

Golden Retriever was bred to retrieve shot waterfowl during hunting and shooting parties. They were originally bred in Scotland, long back when hunting was a popular sport.

Golden Retriever are loyal, loving, and friendly dogs. As they are from the working group of dogs they love to help humans such as retrieving newspapers and looking out on kids. They are energetic dogs who need at least one hour of daily exercise.

  • Dalmatians need daily exercise otherwise they will get bored and destructive.
  • They are sensitive and don’t do well when left alone.
  • Even if they have short fur, they shed throughout the year.

  • They shed quite a lot, brushing them thrice a week will keep dead hair from building up

Loyal guard dogs are the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the name Doberman Pinscher. But that is not the case, Doberman Pinschers are a gentle and loving breed. Athletic and faithful by nature they make one of the best Family dogs.

Doberman Pinscher was originally bred in Germany. They were bred to protect the owners and their houses.

Doberman Pinschers are highly intelligent, courageous, and deeply loyal canines. They need an owner who has a lot of patience while training them. Once they are comfortable with you they can be super loving and caring. Daily walks and physical exercise keep them happy.

  • They bark a lot and can be quite loud for some people, their voice is a bit squicky
  • They have a big dog attitude and don’t realize that they are actually very small.
